ossie1968
Hi I'm looking at a shotgun with 2 barrels, it says one set of barrels is open choke and the other is tight, could someone convert this into 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 full. cheers in advance
COACH
What is the gun ? It`s impossible to say without seeing it or actually measuring it but there are guns out there that are like that. They can be cyl. and 1/2 or 1/4 and 3/4 something like that. The old 1980s Miroku 6000 use to be 1/4 and 3/4 and was used a lot in FITASC. Delbert
The terms are just a guide and vary from gun to gun. A trip down to your friendly neighbourhood gun dealer is required he will have a choke gauge that pops into the barrel it only takes a moment and will give you the answer. chezza1986
If you can get your hands on a caliper gauge there is a way of measuring the choke roughly. My dad gave me his old side by side and there's no markings for the choke so looked at this web extract and i've roughly got 1/4 and 1/2 choked barrels. Go to this web page http://www.wildfowlmag.com/tips_strategies/shotgun_062304/ and that'll get you a rough idea of what you've got. Oh yeah you'll need to find the bore diameter. Mine was printed on the under side of the gun but not sure where your markings will be. Hope it helps.
