Salop Matt
http://www.moonrakerknives.co.uk/woodsknife.htm In my quest to find my purfect knife for paunching I keep looking, Whilest at Catton Park gamefair on sunday the above people showed me the above knives which to date have been the most promising kinfe for me to date ! So am thinking of saving some pennys from my sold bunnys and treating myself to one of these woods knives ( the 62mm one). But but first does anyone have one or had one, if so what do you think of it ? Cheers
MC
I use one of these for paunching rabbits, Folding Utility knife I have a hook type stanley blade in it like roofers and floor layers use. You won't find a sharper edge and because the cutting blade is only about 10mm long you don't ever split the guts open. It is very quick and easy to use, and cheap enough to not worry about. Salop Matt
What am looking for in a knife is it to be sharpe, with a small blade but a big handle that is the lengh of my hand ! I have a Mora but only use the tip and first inch so the rest of the blade ive ended up gaffa taping over so i dont slice my fingers off ! I also do like wooden handled knives

Cheers I meet the guy who owns moonrakerknives last year at a show and nearly bought a woods knife, then he showed me this: its blade is 80mm long and handle is 120mm long, and as he said it was more comfortable in the hand and felt right, think I paid £45 for it. Have not used it yet, as new its like a razor Edited April 19, 2010 by Steve'o

Salop Matt
Not yet steve but I plan to. Looks like am going to pick up a DC4 to sharpen it with to ! I was torn between some thing dirt cheap and just a tool or something a little more expensive that isnt the end of the world if its lost but expensive enough to have a little pride in. So am sticking with getting a woods little hunter as the blade is so small. Once I get the DC 4 am going to spena an hour a night practising sharpening my mora so I dont trash my woods ! Colster
I seem to collect knives, I find it hard to pass them up at Game Fairs etc but the two that always live in my game bag (so actually get to see some action) are a Mora Clipper and Kabar Warthog lock knife. Much as I like lock knifes it's nearly always the Mora that gets used and it has decapitated deer without much struggle. They're only about a tenner but I don't really like the plasticky handle so I'd be keen to hear how you get on with Woods. Like you said they look good quality and a decent price. Salop Matt
I have a Mora to but because 95% of its use is paunching rabbits and leging them I dont require much of a blade in size but with fat hands need somthing with a good handle on as my current method sees me hold the knife by blade and handle  wich should it ever snag would drag the bade through my hand So ive been looking for a knife with a short blade and bigger handle, I also prefer a wooden handle to plactic, metal, rubber etc. I like the look of the Brusletto Balder but the handle is so small when i looked at one I could only grip it with 2/3 fingers which didnt feel to secure ! So was shown straight away the little hunter ! Will let you know how I get on with it once ive picked it up ! Also waiting for some help on the DC4 sharpening stone ! Ever thought about making your own? You can buy a blade that suits your needs and make a handle to suit your hands. Its not too difficult, just takes time. wild-fire
I though about it but most things I make fall apart PDQ so best of and safer to buy ! But one day may giv it a bash. This is an Alan Wood (Norris set) stalking and gralloching knife made with damascus steel and argentinian iron wood handles in a double sheath, 40th bday prezzie from my mrs who ordered them 18 months before my bday to get them, bit too nice to use, shame really. Might take a bid on them, could do with a holiday in the caribbean for a month or so! ALSO HAVE 2 ALAN WOOD RAYMEARS BUSHCRAFT KNIVES, VERY COLLECTABLE IF ANYONE IS IN NEED. Salop Matt
Many thanks Wild-fire, I could never justifie spending the money on a knife such as the alan wood knives ! £30 is expensive for me esp as 95% of its work will be bunny paunching .
