Good if not frustrating end to a night out with friends!

Firstly I went out with steve42 for my 1st buck or deer in that matter. Walked around some very picturesque land from place to place in search of the deer, alas it wasn’to to be but a great opportunity and a great night to just sit and take in the surroundings and fresh air. Then on my way back to one of my permissions I met up with PaulABF to have a look around for a fox and can you believe there were 3. This is where the frustrating part starts (bloody variable scope. This has to go!!!) The 1st one appeared about 40yrds away but I couldn’t get it focused quickly enough although it did stay around a bit while I fumbled around. Never mind about 10 mins later another one appeared (in another area) and after keeping it interested with us both squeaking it and Paul lamping it I finally got one in the bag. Smashin 1st one with my Tikka although it could quite easily been no 2. Then as all the rabbit population had decided to stay in tonight we headed back to the car only to have another one staring at us, but the shot wasnt a safe option so I did not attempt to take it. So you can see how frustrating the end of the night was, granted a good result never the less but pictures of 2 or 3 would have been better. So that’s the end of that scope time for a fixed mag. Can’t wait to get out again

Nice one, atleast u got something in the end, and the buck will come, I remeber my first outing!! didnt see nothing for 3 days, then on the way down the last track through the field, going down the hill with the woods on our right a lovely headed buck stood right there, yep.....u guessed it, on the keepers side of the truck, so he took it and it had such a lovely head he has got it above his fireplace! ggggrrrrrr, but hey ho, I got one in the end and it was well worth the early mornings and endless miles of stalking.

As for the scope, fixed powers do have their uses, but maybe get one with a sidewheel so you could focus much quicker then fiddling with the parralex bit at the front? But then again it looks like you have a few slots and are looking to have a use for each of those rifles, and the .243 will be your deer rifle so a fixed power would be a good choice.

All the best. Jimbo
