Dekers
I have very little experience here, but I do have a trap and I do have an issue on a clients site. Some background on baits and trap siting and any other hints and tips much appreciated! Cheers
Highlander
I've only ever shot the little blighters but there's some good info here http://www.gwct.org.uk/research__surveys/s...an_mink/305.asp Next to BASC the organisation all 'hunters' should support. jonno
I was issued with a raft & trap by my local wildlife agency, but only after I could tell them that I had a suitable way of dispatching the mink (they recommended a .22 rimfire but I'm sure a full power air rifle ) and that the land was cleared for that calibre. I only caught one last year (and a couple of squirrels!) but no sign of the water voles returning yet. They don't recommend any bait, the raft is tethered to the bank and the mink just go in for a look around thinking it is a tunnel. You start off with clay - no trap - and then only put the trap in once you have seen their tracks. You only need to check the clay once per week. Once the trap is in you have to check a couple of times a day. The only tip I can think of is to cover the raft in twigs to make it look more natural to a mink. Good luck!
