Diceman
Have been volunteered to strip & clean the club gun (Breda 20 bore) but to be honest having never owned one I have no idea where to start with a semi auto. A bit of googling reveals that first step is to unscrew the knurled **** on the front of the foreend but I cannot get it to shift. It won't push down or pull up and it certainly will not turn. There is a hole in the end of the **** that looks like it could take some sort of key but if that is the case, I have no idea where it is. Does a key sound likely? If not...any ideas? Thanks Diceman Edit: For those of you with a nervous disposition, the censors have deleted a really really rude word beginning with k and ending in ***. The nation's morals are safe. Honestly, I stopped laughing at that in primary school, even after I found out it was called a homonym. Who wrote the censor list, Queen Victoria? Edit again... they've even censored half a word now. The one that begins in n and ends in b with an o in the middle. Shall I just call it a turny round thing? Would that help? Would that be clearer than using the PROPER ENGLISH WORD FOR IT THAT IS ONLY RUDE IF YOU ARE AN ELEVEN YEAR OLD? I'm off now to cover up the table legs in case the PW Morality Unit call round and take offence at their sheer naked oakiness. sandy22
Is this a recoil-operated gun with a moving barrel like the Browning A-5? If so, you probably need to push the barrel back slightly, to take the pressure of the recoil spring off the forend. Hold it back while you unscrew the k**b and then gently allow the barrel and forend to slide forward off the mag tube. (I'm sure I don't need to tell you to make really sure the thing is completely unloaded before you do this.) Diceman
Jon - thanks for the PM, will have a look over there. I also have a strap wrench somewhere, will dig it out and have a go. Sandy - I can't see that the barrel moves at all, seems to be pretty well fixed into the rest of the metalwork.
sandy22
It does require a good bit of pressure to push the barrel back. But maybe yours is a newer gas operated type, in which case I can't be much help. Sorry.
JackReady
Diceman Breda strip down vid Shows you how to take it down to its component parts Edited June 7, 2010 by JackReady
Diceman
Strap wrench did it, I was just being a bit too gentle before. Not quite as old as the one on the vid and it does appear to be gas operated, there is a hell of a lot of gunk in there so will probably leave the rest of the job till tomorrow. Thanks to all for your help. D
