soreshoulder
ive been given an old sxs which has been 'well used'. Is there any way to get a shiny finish on the silver action like as new gun would have?
SSS
Polish it up but be careful. Either that or send it to the gunsmith to be done

Cumbrian
Do you really want to polish it? It would have been colour hardened originally. Polished English guns fetch less. Might be better to leave the existing patina, unless it's really awful. It would also reflect in the field, which might be a disadvantage. Graham M
The action will be case hardened so you don’t want to polish away the hardening. If you want it to shine then you need to burnish it with a very soft wire wheel. G.M.
