Tis1979
Shooting yesterday & found it fantastic to watch the Swallows flying out in front Just downwind of my pattern, At first not realizing what they were up too, but then it clicked when i shot a pigeon and the pillow case of feathers drifted off downwind the swallows would swoop through grab a feather and be off with it as quick as & then return moments later almost waiting for the next shot. Clever little *******! Anyone else been witnessing this?

Clever little *******! Anyone else been witnessing this? I saw exactly what you describe last night too. We were walking the dog and I often take the gun - just in case a good shot presents itself. Last night two pigeons broke out of a large oak and presented a lovely opportunity for a left and a right. Unfortunately I only took the one shot as they were diving down and I could be 100% where the dog was - but at least I hit the one I shot at. Immediately afterwards, before the dog had even set off (turns out he was behind me all the time) a swallow swooped across and took a feather or two before disappearing again. Amazing. The dog couldn't find the pigeon (he isn't a trained gundog but tries hard) but fortunately my wife is trained to stare at the spot where they drop and walk to it. She found it straight off lying dead in the wheat. Good girl! Steve

shoughton
Will she retrieve over water? Not sure if she'll want to get her coat wet - but I'll give it a go
harv
Not sure if she'll want to get her coat wet - but I'll give it a go  If you can train the wife then you can certainly train the dog,in my experience Dogs are far more intelligent
Egg
Poor swallows will be thinking it's a beanfeast of insects - imagine their dismay when they find they have a beak-full of woody feathers.
