which gun???

Recommended Posts

i realise this topic has been done before but i am now really confused i have put in for my fac and have got the feo coming round next monday the problem is i have put on it .22lr after a lot of thought i went out for a drive to 4 different gun shops today and all of them said to get a 17hmr so before the feo comes round i have to make my mind up do i change and ask for hmr or stick with .22lr as the hmr is sounding better each time i hear it now i know the lr owners will say lr and the hmr owners will say hmr but if any of you guys have shot both and can finally make my mind up for me i would be grateful

thanks colin

Its a difficult one to answer. I have an lr, and my mate has an HMR. The main differences I find are ammo prices and noise. If you dont mind spending money on ammo, and you can cope with the extra noise, go for a hummer, if you want to shoot for pence, and very quietly, go for the lr.

Either that, or apply for both, get both and make your own decisions from there. :whistling:

I applied for both as just couldnt make up my mind,i prefer the cz.22lr but then the range of the .17hmr is more,so left it up to my feo to decide for me,he convinced me to have the .22lr to go with the .223,simple reasons really,its cheap to feed,its quiet,it shoots at the ranges i need and most of the rabbit is still intact,so to me imo,the .17hmr would be to much for most of my shots with the occasional long shot for more expense,just to say i do like the .17 and am not knocking the calibre,just my personal choice would be .22lr :whistling:

.22lr = rabbits

.223 = fox/muntjac

as its my 1st fac would it not be too much to ask for .223?

It is my first fac and i have been granted both .22lr and the .223,dropped the .17hmr on feo visit as said before.and i am 100% gonna get cz 452 .22lr american,this is what my mate lets me use and i just love it to bits,a cracking little rifle in every way,i prefer this to his .17hmr

The shops will undoubtedly tell you to go for a .17 because they are more expensive, both for the rifle and the ammo. Or is that me being a bit cynical :whistling: .

I had exactly the same issue and the FEO advised me to go for the .22LR so i got a CZ452 varmint and i love it. Other bonus is that for every 1000 rounds you save between £120 - £200 by buying .22 over the .17. Unless you are hitting a lot of foxes over 60m the 22LR would be fine.
