ashcmt
Hello fellas, My black lab is 2 and a half now, and over the last week has increasingly snubbed his food to the point where yesterday and today he has point blank refused it. At the the back of the house is a bit of shared common land, he goes out there for number 1's and 2's, the neighbours dogs do also. Coincidentally about a week ago he's started standing at the back gate sniffing all around it lke crazy and when in the kitchen, standing at the back door whinging to go to the back gate to sniff it. When let on to the back his nose doesnt lift off the floor. Now it doesnt take a genius to realise that one of the neighbours dogs must be on heat and its driving him crazy, but i'm worried now because a bit of weight has dropped off him. He'll take ham and gravy bones, but completely refuses to eat his food. he's on a complete food that he's been on for 12 months if not more that keeps him in good condition and regular in the toilet department. I've booked him in at the vets to get his nuts off, which i never thought i'd have to do to be honest. but this has changed his behaviour considerably, and it isnt doing him any favours. I lived with my parents with him for a while, who have two small dogs, one of which is a border terrier that came on heat while I was there and it didnt change his behaviour at all and he didnt go off his food. I'm presuming that he wasnt quite so mature as he will of only been 18mnths old. Anyone experienced this before? i'm going to get some fresh food and some tinned dog meat to mix in his food in an attempt to get a good feed into him tomorrow. Cheers lads, Ash
shade695
completely normal we have two dogs a male and female and he loses a good few pounds when our bitch is in season, he will slowly but eventually go back to his food, so you'll know what to expect the next time and we have since had the male speyed and he doesn't bother her, he does however still clean her though. Lloyd90
You dont necessarily need to get his nuts off for that. My mates dog tried humping my lab a good week after her season. But a few days later he stopped and hasn't done it since Once the scent is gone he may be back to normal
