andrew flavell
Evening all. Well first permission granted. 35 acres with a pigeon/ crow problem. I've been using the airgun. I've spoke to the land owner today and a shotgun is ok. But the tennant has horses and a house near by. I've got a 410 single and lanber 12g. Can you get a silencer for either and can someone point me in the right direction please.
HW682
http://www.saddleryandgunroom.co.uk/Gunroom/SG_Hushpower.htm Check out this website. They do add on silencers or you can get fully moderated guns which are generally quieter. You hould be able to get one from your local RFD. Also search on here for Hushpower. There are plenty of reviews and discussions and usually one or two for sale.
swiss.tony
silenced shotguns are still loud mate and could easy spook horses so just be carefull . see if u can get them to put horses away on the days you shoot ? SWISS
stubby
I use my 410 pedretti hushpower on a goat farm, if I use sub sonic carts, any goats 30yds away dont flinch, yet if I try using 3" magnum, they **** themselves, the add on silencer will cut the noise down some what, but not as much as a full hushpower if you have a spare £500 or can lend it, theres a nice mossberg 410 pump in the for sale section, has the hushpower barrel and spare standard barrel once your sorted, set up decoys around the dung heap,
jackinbox99
Ive got a mossberg hushpower, same as the one for sale on here atm. Id highly recommend them. I shoot rabbits around a local farm who has horses and havent had any problems yet. If you are around buildings then it will sound louder, but in an open field its as quiet as a springer air rifle. Compared to a normal 12bore, its night & day. So, id say use your air rifle around the buildings , but if you setting up a hide in the field to get the pigeons / crows then a hushpower will do the job nicely. andrew flavell
Cheers all. The one I've looked at is obviously the fifty five quid one. Apparently I need a gunsmith to fit correctly. He may put the horses away. Would have to ask. Thankfully he's a friend at work. So I'll probably get more assistance. Are the small ones of any use? Can't afford the full moderator at the moment or another gun. I'd just like to tread careful on my first permission!
HDAV
try some sub carts in the .410 these are used at clay grounds with noise issues and may be quiet enough (I have seen horse in a paddock next to a field with a gas gun in it and they don't move when it fires as they are used to it.....) perhaps ask the tenant to watch the horses while you try a test fire as far away as poss then move closer and try again.
