MattSoanes
Ive a 2 1/2 year old working Cocker Bitch, she is a fantastic little dog who im very pleased with apart from she wont bring shot game to hand. She will go and pick it no problem but then get about 10yrds away drop it and lose interest, when training with a dummy she will always deliver to hand. I cant get my head round it ive tried alsorts, walking away as she gets closer and obviously giving her lots of praise. If anyone has any ideas/guidence for me i would be very grateful ATB Matt

MattSoanes
Ive not really done that much with her with cold game to be honest, but what she has done has been good. Mind you ive not tried her with cold game for a year at least.
activeviii
try cold game in a few wraps of stocking. put a dummy out as normal and get the retrieve, then the next one put the stocking out, if she just sniffs it with out much else then try a dummy wrapped in stocking 1st then swap for the game wrap. once you get her happy with that you can take a wrap of stocking off and do again. what i do for the lst is to get the stocking and tie it around the bird to hold the wings in. i have always had a problem with any retrieve, my lad would drop 5 foot away and that wait for me to pick it up. in the end i got the better of him on the river bank. we have a nice shallow river but with a good slopping bank. my cocker loves the water so i used that against him. i would throw a ball out 10foot into the water and then walk back up the slope. dog gets ball and come close to me, he then drops ball, the ball rolls past hm and back towards water. dog then goes get the ball and brings it back. it took 5 of 6 goes as this before he understood than if he puts the ball in my hand he would get a retrieved from the water. if he drops ball it would roll away. he now brings to hand most of the time. on occasions he tests me but i will not have it. for the last few weeks he has brought every single runner to hand and held it until i tell him to give. hope you get it sorted ATB Phil. teal27
Mines exactly the same, shes two and refused to even pick it up sometimes, so I put a pigeon in a stocking and she brought it back, after a few confident retrieves cut a hole near the wings and pull them out, do a few more retrieves then when the dog looks confident again take it completely out and try hiding it so they have to find it, adds to the excitement. I believe its just the feathers most dogs dont like.
blacklab
Take her to a pro trainer he/she will get her retrieving in no time, money well spent. Lee
