Boxing Day

I had a couple of hours walking round the shoot today mainly to blow the cobwebs away but also to see where the pidgy's were roosting. We usually start roost shooting in February. All the land is winter wheat but there are 40 acres of woodland. It was noticable the birds were mainly in large flocks up to 100 plus and they were going in quite early. The woodlands are quite mixed and spread out and the birds tended to favour the ash and beech trees near the lake. The last 45 mins before dark I didn't see a pigeon. There are a lot of birds in the area and i'll probably try and have a proper go at them next week depending on the weather. Interestingly very few birds went in to the conifer woods. I had a couple of shots at two separate woodcock and nailed one unfortunate woodie on the edge of the wood. Cheers all, hope you all had a good christmas.
