I have seen a bird twice in the last couple of weeks thats got me baffled, its about the same size as a jay but it has chestnut brown wings and a green back down to the tips of the tail, I have only seen it twice flying away from me it sticks close to the treeline does not call out, I wondered if anyone has seen one like it, I have looked in my books and on the internet but had no success

Green Finch (Bit small though from what you say)

Chiffchaff (great name,,)

The other being the green woodpecker has been mentioned and they do have darker fathers on the edge of the wing. But when they fly further thanabout 10 meters they have a swooping flight pattern that is unmistakeable

That or someones pet parrot has escaped,,,,

It could be someones parrot, I will ask in the village see if anyone has lost one, the flight was straight and distinct chestnut brown and green colours, thanks lads for your input.
