steel shot

hi all,

i was just wondering if i can shoot steel shot in my gun it's a 1989 beretta a303 sporter s/a 2/34" chamber and the si certifica states its proofed to 1200 bar :look:

U can fire steel through any gun aslong as it is fired using a plastic wad as there is no steel on barrel contact, however if it's a fixed choke gun I wouldn't fire steel through anything tighter that 1/2 choke

If its not proofed for steel, then its not a good idea to use it

As far as i remember the 303 was a multi-choke, so you should be ok using std steel loads through it. No tighter than 1/2 choke though.

 

However, it's always best to read the small print on the cartridge box if unsure. I seem to remember using some Gamebore Black Gold 28gm 7.5 shot about 18 months ago, and i'm sure it stated on the box that they were to be used in guns proofed to 1370 bar.

There are two types of steel carts one that can be shot through any gun with a 70mm chamber that has 1/2 choke or less with shot sizes no greater than 3.25 mm feo 4 think. See http://www.hullcartridge.co.uk/products/ga...eel_game_12.cfm

Then there are high performance carts that need to go through a 1370 bar proof.

i was told by someone that the old 1200 bar (crusher) was the same as the new 1370 bar introduced in the 90's :blink:
