THAIBOXER
well ive had him 7 months. he is 17 months old, retrieves, walks off lead and obeys all my commands. everyone comments on his good nature with kids etc. ive heard him woof 3 times in 7 months. once at some cows once at my chainsaw once at another dog. it would be nice if he did the odd woof when a stranger comes in the garden (he is in his run in the day). should i encourage barking or just be glad of the quiet ? cheers. PUSC
personally i have 3 dogs at home who bark like hell whenever anyone is within 20 yards of the front gate (and thats when they are inside) and it's really flipping annoying, however i do know that any sneaky *** who makes it inside the gate will set them off so there is always that piece of mind... however they've never had the chance to demonstrate it so the barking is just damn annoying really lol
silpig5
my year old lab has only now found her voice . it was a novelty at first , but she keeps talking to the cat threw the fence , not really a full blown bark , more or a strangled woof . she isnt one of those all day barkers , just now and again. she has learnt to stop on command though which im pleased with . Cranfield
I don't really see what your problem is, there are few things worse than a noisy gundog. I had a springer bitch that barked about 10 times (when she had her pups) in 14 years.

Me neither, my little Springer is a noisy little mare, any noise in the house and she's off, thankfully she never barks out and about......i'm in the throws of correcting it, consider yourself lucky
zab10
i got my lab at 16 months and had her for about 4 months before i heard her bark which i think was after her listening to my crabbit old lurcher and learning from her . i was starting to wonder a if she was mute ! now she barks when the door goes or a strange noise outside which i dont mind . THAIBOXER
thanks guys. i go shooting most days and my dogs always with me,being quiet is essential. so i guess im on a good thing with him not barking,he does wimper a lot when he's exited though. the neighbours say they never hear him at all. so if he ever does bark at someone i guess they will invetigate. thanks for your comments. lee
