southwest_colonel
In case we forget-for the first 3 years of WW2 the only way we could strike back at germany was with the RAF-nearly 56000 men paid the ultimate price to defend this country. It was these brave men, which you allude to, which struck back, not the RAF. They could have worn any uniform (and indeed many did wear RN FAA uniforms, especially during the Battle of Britain). I largely agree with the rest of your post. I think it is important to remember that the argument is for streamlining the provision of air assets. No-one is suggesting that we just crush all of the RAF's planes and put their 44,000 personnel onto the dole. Just because those that transfer across start wearing dark blue or green isn't going to make their skills suddenly vanish, they'll still be able to maintain and fly their aircraft, and they will still be directed by the same people. The training schools won't suddenly close because there is no RAF - though there may be some centralization where courses are essentially replicated across the services (as is currently the case for initial pilot training). PS. Great post HDAV.
Chally2
The crabs are **** at their job. Anyone who has gone through Brize would agree. Compare them to a civilian company and they would be long out of business. They are beurocratic and very very poor at a supporting role. speaking to a booty the other day who was on sucondment flying chinouks, he had to force his air crew on for another turn around to get a guy with a blown off leg. The crab crew didn't want to go because it was 20 minutes before their shift was over. An officer was sorting out a function asked some RAF guys to help out, they told the Army Officer where to go because it wasn't in their job description to move tables. Fixed wing to the Navy rotary to the Army. The crabs are very poor at being military and they should be dispanded for not producing the goods. It is very evident that alot of people on here don't have a clue what they are talking about. 100 year trial is ending and the result FAILED
Chally2
If the RAF was broken up and handed to the army and navy who would operate the transport squadrons (VC10s, tristars, hercs, C-17s NAVY and a variety of helicopters ARMY such as the apache attack squadrons THATS ARMY ALREADY)? Who would own the pilot and maintainer training schools ARMY AND NAVY AS WE DO NOW? Who would own the tanker force? NAVY Who would own the chinook force (which operates from land bases, carriers or special ships like HMS Ocean NAVY ROYAL MARINES), or the Pumas ARMY, or the Merlins? THATS THE NAVY THEN AS THEY DO ALREADY Who would own the strategic intel assets like the awacs. THE YANKS LIKE THEY DO This is one of those rather silly suggestions which do not survive exploration of the detail. As for attcking their own assets by attacking us does that mean bradford and luton will not be targeted? KW THEY ARE **** Edited August 14, 2010 by Chally2
