TJ91
DONT give up door knocking i am always on the look out for more shooting grounds and today after getting knocked back a good few times over the last few months i have finally managed to get some more land to shoot over, infact i have hit the JACKPOT.. noticed alot of pigeon activity on a harvested field of rape and thought its worth a punt so round to the farmhouse and have a nice friendly chat with the farmer who i must say was an absolute gentleman from the start!! i mentioned i do alot of shooting and dropped a few names of other local farmers i shoot for (incase he wanted a reference!) he said his prayers had been answered as he has had pigeons hammering his crops below a railway away from the road that cannot been seen by anybody..he said he has relied on bangers and hasnt had anyone shoot over his 400 acres for about 2year now!! After talking in depth about the pigeon problem we soon got talking about rabbits and rooks that are allover..i said i would do my best to clean a few up! After going for a drive round with him to get to know the boundarys i couldnt believe my eyes, it is a dream come true, 400acres of crops, grassland, a big stream, thick hedgerows and a few copses of trees (fir and hardwoods) i really am sorted for the next few weekends and hopefully i can keep this nice bit of land for the forseable future! the ducks that lifted out of the stream were soon put on the list of what i can shoot and also the few pheasants in the big hedgerows... i have been waiting a lifetime for a place i can do some true rough shooting and today my wish has been granted. This fine farmer will defiantly be getting a few bottles of the finest brew i can find at christmas time!! Dont give up...be polite and dress appropriately, be friendly and dont be rude if the farmer knocks you back, leave a number and keep your eyes peeled!! Stokoe
That's fantastic news mate, sounds like you really have hit the jackpot! I found out today that I've got my first bit of permission.... I was absolutely over the moon. I'm not quite sure how I would of reacted if I'd secured 400 acres!! :good:
UKPoacher
Well done. The thing now is to make sure that you go regularly & make sure you are noticed. Nothing pees farmers off more than not seeing or hearing the shooters especially when the crops are vulnerable.
Salop Matt
Congratulations, I nearly soiled myself with excitement the first time I got a permition ! I have a couple of small holdings (5-6acres) and one larger patch but I desperately want something such as what you have just landed ! But I am 26 and I guess all good things come to those who wait......... In the mean time I keep active in the hope for a break such as yours ! Well done once again ! Well done once again ! most of the permissions i have are the ones my dad had before he packed in shooting, i have just taken his spot, i got myself a couple hundred more acres through word of mouth at a sheep market and then just by knocking on a door i landed this biggy! age cant be a factor...i am 19!! when you get 1 permission it gives you a farmers name to mention when searching for more permissions, it definitely helps! I have been down there quite abit already and have managed to get a good few pigeons, the odd crow and some rabbits. i have noticed a good few pheasants about and a 8 duck lifted out of the stream from under a big old oak tree again yesterday, with a few more further down stream. it is going to be the perfect rough shoot come november!!
