kent
i believe you can teach an old dog new tricks but getting it out of the ones it already knows can be the tricky bit

As a rank amateur having enough trouble training my own, I can't answer your question. However, I think that you've answered it yourself. If you're not certain that you want it, don't get it. The resposibility of re-homing it is with the current owner. My question would be, did the current owner REALLY want it in the first place? Your kind nature could end up giving you trouble for the next 10 years or so. Cheers
