tasum
I have a mate who has just applied for a variation to have a 243 to shoot over land as he's started stalking. He's only been once and West Yorkshire are asking him to shoot with someone or even have a written permission before they'll add the condition. They've told him if he has some land they'll give him an open ticket(?). My land is only cleared to 22-250, so I can't help him. Is there anyone who would be prepared to let him have an accompanied shoot on their land or even have their land owner give him permission? Any permission granted would be on the basis that he would only shoot with you. As it's West Yorkshire it would be handy if it's up here. I appreciate that this is a lot to ask and is something I am going to have to do when I go for my 308, but I really want to help my pal. He has some land down south that he's sorting out, but it's likely to take some time. He's a very nice guy, extremely safe and is the membership secretary of our local rimfire club and a member of Huddersfield Rifle club. He has a 308 that he uses for targets only at this stage. If you can help please drop me a pm. Thanks in advance. Edited August 27, 2010 by tasum
al4x
ask to have your land re checked, if its ok for .22-250 it should be a formality
magman
Could he not just book a stalk then he has the need for the rifle ?
tasum
Thanks re the re-checking, I'll have a chat with my flo, I wasn't sure about the calibre. He only wants the rifle for stalking as far as I'm aware, so I'll have a chat with him this weekend to try and sort it out. Thanks
al4x
get him to put fox as well as then he has requirement on existing land and it is an acceptable fox caliber, then say paid stalking as well
tasum
Thanks for all the help. My land won't be cleared for anything bigger than 22-250, and I don't have a 243 for my pal to use anyway. Now spoken to him and wy have told him he can have his 243 if he can show them a permission. He wants it for paid stalking and for vermin, but has no land. If he can show them a permission they will then grant him an open ticket. Seems a bit backwards, but that's what he's been told. So, anyone out there prepared to let him join your permission for a shoot or 2 under your supervision? Edited August 27, 2010 by tasum
al4x
let me guess your land got cleared for up to 22-250 when you applied for a 22-250 on it
tasum
let me guess your land got cleared for up to 22-250 when you applied for a 22-250 on it No, I asked for it to be cleared to the maximum calibre. I had asked for them to consider clearing it for 243 and a 308 as well as the 223 and the 22-250. I accompanied the 2 firearms officer on the land and they told me which bits they would clear (one field too close to the road) and that the max calibre they would clear to was 22-250. One of my permissions would probably support 243 or 308, but with no deer issue I can only show a need for a foxing rifle. So I did try, but it's not likely that they'll uprate it beyond 22-250, unless it gets infested with deer. Your too far away al4x to be of any practical help, but thanks for your assistance so far. Love your piccy. Edited August 27, 2010 by tasum
