Quad Bike

Not sure If I am in the right department but I am thinking of getting a Quad Bike to carry myself and my decoying equipment. I have a trailer for the Discovery and I know others use quad bikes around the farm.

Quad bikes seem to range from the toy type to the outrageous mean machine. I am looking for function rather than high performance. Any of you shooters or farmers have any suggestions?

without sounding biased , stay clear of cheapo chinese copys , they are good to a point but bad castings , obsolete carbs and very weak frames .

you wont go wrong with honda or suzuki . quadziller are ok but not as rugged.

if you want new , and a good finance deal give me a pm.

case and suzuki dealer in east anglia !!

I have a Honda Fourtrax ES 350 I use for lamping foxes, and also use on our smallholding. I bought it new four years ago, nothing has gone wrong, nothing has dropped off, and it is bombproof.

You get what you pay for - the cheap ****** copies seem to frequently be nothing but trouble.

I use a kawasaki 450 (auto). It's ex deer stalking and grouse shooting kit got it on ebay. As it's cameo green can leave it right alongside the hide and the pigeons take no notice of it at all. If I use a trailer just throw a net over the lot. It takes all my gear, will go anywhere and most importantly it does not damage the ground.

I've got a old klf300 and it serves it's purpose fine - I've thrown a few bits at it over the last 2 years (new starter, piston kit, valve service, oil filter and seals). It'll want the clutch doing soon but after that it'll be good for years.

I have to though, 2 farmer mates have a new honda and a new yam respectively and the honda is streets ahead. Another mate has a trx350 and swears by it. I paid £250 for my kwack (very good price even though it wanted attention) but you'll struggle to find a decent honda for less than £1500.

As ever, it very much depends on your budget
