mr_jack
hello, i currently use a webley stingray K .22 and a ratcatcher .22, my fav quarry are rats, when i hunt these rodents i always use my ratcatcher because of the long waits involved with hunting rats... i would like to use my springer to hunt them, but i dont wont to weaken the spring, this happens when springers are cocked and left for long periods... does anyone here use there springer to hunt for rats?? can anyone give me any tips? how long can i leave mine cocked before the spring starts to get damaged? would it be ok for lets say 3-4 hours?? any info on this subject would be very grateful thanks
Nildes
One of our Webleys got put back in the cabinet charged and left like that for two weeks. I had to give the person that did it a rollicking and, just to be sure of any damage to the spring, I put a dozen shots through, checking with the meter to see whether it was still delivering 12ftlbs. It was within 5% on all twelve shots. So I don't think a few hours is going to hurt. Its about chosing the best tool for the job. If you prefer the springer, use it
king ratcatcher
i have always been aware of this too, i love hunting rats aswell, as i also use a springer (bsa lightning and hw97k) i never used to leave mine loaded for longer then half hour, but i have been told you can leave them loaded for quite long. LordAJ
I read in an Airgunworld magazine that leaving a spring air rifle cocked for a long period of time doesnt harm the spring at all, but can have the opposite effect! Thats what it said! Anyway i leave my BSA lightning cocked for long periods of time when out shooting, say 5 hours or so on occasions. I wouldnt worry to much about it, but just focus on your shooting. Regards LordAJ
