Fisherman Mike
Picture of the upper Thames at Eysey near Cricklade, Wilts. About 8 miles from its source. An area I have been fishing since I could ride a bike. Once home to BIG roach, Chub, Dace & Barbel. Now sadly mainly Crayfish but the Perch are still there with splatterings of various others including some big natural Brown trout which are feasting on the crayfish Water and gravel extraction have reduced the river to a trickle in summer and the big shoals of dace and grayling which used to be present have dissappeared. However the wildlife on the banks is always of interest and apart from the ocassional walker walking the Thames path you can spend a day there with just the farm livestock for company. manxman2
I read there were salmon in the thames now. And that stream is about the same size as our main rivers, looks deeper as ours are wider a little in alot of places, and they are spate rivers. Interesting all the fish you named we dont have any of them here just trout / sea trout and salmon, no cray fish either. would dearly love to fish for all those varieties tho, tried carp/tench at the metropolitan police forces pond in the middle of liverpool, i kid you not, right in the middle of liverpool in a nuns sanctuary, surrounded by trees a wall and barbed wire and glass cemented into the wall, and a camera. CAPs sorry just looked up. i ENJOYED THE CARP THAT MUCH I BOOKED ANOTHER NIGHT WITH THE NUNS AND FISHED THE NEXT dAY INSTEAD OF DRIVING TO PITLOCHERIE AND FISHING THE TUMMEL, still had a week in scotland, but the carp were te best fishin of my life on light tackle. i had several 15lb plus, and a good helping of other kinds of fish, several different sorts ive forgotten the names of now, was hoping to catch a grayling on the tummel. Its just so sweet, the float slides under, you raise your arm, and either your line peels off your reel as you bend backwards with the drag set to avoid the line snapping on a fish version of a barge, or its a tiddler of some sort. eta barbel are the ones i would really like to try for.
