Went for a stroll today to try and decrease the heavy crow population on one of my permissions. I've not really used the 12 bore much over last 18 months-espiecally not for birds (been mostly rifle shooting). Didnt really surprise me then that i hardly hit a thing!! :good:

Its made me realise i need to get my eye 'back in'. Im after a clay trap, looking for something sub £100. Seen a few advertised on internet for around the £70 mark, are they any good or can someone more knowledgable than myself reccomend one. Also how much do the clays cost? Cheers peeps.

Cheap single arm one's are fine for occasional practice, I had a £40 trap that lasted for years and I got £30 for it when I sold it.

Clays are around 9p each, but shop around for a good deal.

Keep your eyes on fleabay.

Anything by Bowman will be a good well made simple trap and there can be some great bargains 2nd hand as more and more people move on to auto traps.

I have seen the fur and feather bowman go for about £100-00, pedal traps can make good money but sometimes don't make £100.

Try and get something like a double arm No.2 if possible. they chuck a pair as far as you could want them. You can get swivel mounts to put on teal.

Even the little No.1 will whack a standard out at some pace.

Another good one is the Stuart (Stewart). They often come on a base which allows everything from driven to loopers (and rabbits if you are creative and keep your knees out of the way) to be thrown.

Try and get your clays from the busiest clayground or gunshop you can find. Mine work out at 6.2p each as I am lucky enough to get "pallet rate" even on single boxes.
