Hardwoods Green
The Medalist was an Italian gun made by Sabatti. If u look on the underside of the barrels there will be a little square with 2 letters in it eg BH or AN. This is the proof stamp that denominates the year of manufacture. Get the two letters and I can tell you how old the gun is. From what I remember they bought the gun out in about 1984-5 and ceased production in about 2006-7. throbbingfinger
Thanks for the reply HDAV. Just to confirm, is the stamping is applicable to all guns or just black powder proofed guns? Thanks Mark

HDAV
THe proof marks apply to all guns sold in the UK and will show important info about the gun, date of proof what it is proofed for etc. newer guns will be nitro proofed and poss steel, it also shows the barrel pressure it was proofed to which can have an impact on cartridge choice especially with hi performance steel loads. IMO everyone with an SGC should know proof marks are where to find the info on them and what they mean.
