20 gauge for game

Just wondering what the general opinion was for using a 20 gauge on game?

I have been shooting about a year with a 12 gauge and got to a reasonable standard on clays (high 30s out of 50).

I have just bought a 20 gauge and have only shot it once, but shot ok with it.

Would it be a good idea to use it on my next shoot (walked up and driven) or should I stick to the 12g for now?

Cheers!

i dont shoot clays so everytime i buy a new gun it gets used on live quarry straight away

nothing wrong with a 20gauge for game, especially walked up game, lighter so you wont suffer carrying it about alday

alot of people prefer 20 bore and use them for all shooting

get some decent cartridges and have a go

all i ever use is a 20 bore with 24gram 6s.

Until I inherited my 12b SBS the 20b was all I used to use and never felt like being at a disadvantage at all. With decent cartridges there's hardly any perceiveable difference to a 12b apart from a noticable reduction on recoil. If it wasn't for me liking to use the SBS so much I'd probably still be using the 20b full time for game, only using a 12b for the odd day on the clays for which, unfortunately, it works out significantly less expensive but if I could get 20b clay cartridges for the same price as 12b then I'd be using the 20b for clays too.

20 bores are brilliant guns, so many people use them now, especially Berettas, they look really nice too. Iv shot everything from snipe to foxes and Canada geese with mine, and everything in between. Great for walked up as its light, and very fast and accuate handling, great on a flight pond or in the pigeon hide. I personally used 28 gram 6 and 5 for all shooting.
