how do i know if i can shot steel

as the title says i have a browning citori and dont know if i can shoot steel loads. how do i find out ??

any help will be appreciated thanks in advance.

Chck the proof marks on the barrel. If it's steel proof it should say "steel shot" or "steel proof", or something to that effect. If not look for the fleur de'ley stamp. This is the proof hose stamp for steel shot. Just google steel shot proof marks and you will get a few links to show you just what each stamp means. That's how I checked

 

incidentaly PW gurus- does the barrel have to be proofed to 1300psi to be steel proof. Is that the cut off? I had heared tbs but not too sure so go on the fleur de lays. I ask as my betty is proofed to 1600 but does not have the fleur de'leys stamp so I'm not sure it's ok to use steel in. Erring on the side of caution I've not so far. Using the hatsan I stead

most guns will shoot steel if you use less than half choke, its the new high performance steel thats the problem

but if you have the fleur' stamp then your good to go or so i am led to believe
