rifle twist and pressure

Recommended Posts

Here's a question for the more experienced reloaders and probably long range target boys. I'm looking for some data on the net in relation to rifle twist in relation to pressure. Would a barrel with a quicker twist rate increase chamber pressure compared to a slower twist rate. I know there are so many differant factors which effect chamber pressure but surely a rifle with a 9 to 1 twist would create more pressure than a 12 to 1 twist for the same load.Is this minimal or does it make a differance or am I talking a load of rubbish

I don't reload but it makes sense, tighter twist would make it harder to get out of the barrel I suspect, all else being equal, so presumably more back pressure. :hmm:

Not something I have spent any time thinking about as we all know the heavier the bullet the tighter the twist and the lighter vice versa.

What difference it makes is probably all within tolerances, and the more important question is most likely to be how well any given twist stabilizes any given weight of bullet|!
