shotgunshortie
Hi Guys. Just had my 97 Peugeot Expert MOT'd. It failed on excessive play in the ball joints. I replaced them and took it back for a re-test today. It failed again.I turns out where the ball joint goes into the hub carrier, the hub carrier is worn. I have spoken to a breaker who has got a Citroen Synergie which he reckons are the same hub carriers. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone had the same problem and got any suggestions for how to fix it? Any help would be greatly received. jacksdad
Peugeot & Citroen are indeed much the same platform with their own bodies stuck on, when I worked for Peugeot the technical dept phone numbers were even the same! If the breaker says they are the same, I reckon he's right PS I drive a Renault Master van at the moment, which is the same as Vauxhall Movano and Nissan Interstar, they just stick different badges on most cars these days
shotgunshortie
Thankyou Jacks Dad. Anyone ever had to change a hub carrier on an Expert? Curious how hard it is thats all?
J@mes
Jack up car remove wheel undo driveshaft nut (get a mate to hold the foot brake on when you do this) remove brake caliper remove brake disc undo ball joint pinch bolt undo suspension strut pinch bolt undo track rod nut remove ABS sensor if it has them remove hub, being careful not to pull the driveshaft out of the box or you'll dump all the oil and probably ruin the seal too) fitting is reverse of removal! J@mes
I did one on a 306 a few years back and it took me about 90 minutes from start to finish, including the coffee break and regular "stop to blow on my hands because it was bloody freezing" breaks too! I'd make sure you have all new nylon lock nuts as a minimum before you start to put it back on, and would suggest getting new bolts too - some of the ones I removed had the threads completely mashed and were unusable. Get them from peugeot or citroen for a few quid, or a nut and bolt supplier if you have time to take the hub off and get to one to compare the removed parts! Blow torch, WD40 and a breaker bar are essential tools, it's gonna be very rusty under there and things tend to be stuck fast! cheers! shotgunshortie
Top Advice!! I will tackle it tommorrow and let you know how I get on. I was quoted 200 quid by Peugeot for the part so gota be worth a bit of swearing to save 180 quid!
