I might have a problem here, does anyone else let there dogs have hide bones ?

I have let Alvy have one but he is off his food, I wondered if the hide bones could be binding him up ?

Any thoughts please.

My terrier harry has allways had rawhide chews and usually has 3-4 knocking arround the house in various stages of chewedness. They are really useful in keeping his teeth in good condition and as such its something that i encourage.

Ive heard detractors suggesting that raw hide chews can be bad if the dog swallows lumps of the chew "un chewed"as it can be hard for their stomach to break down. Because of that, combined with how quickly he demolished small puppy chews Consequently I always buy chews that have been designed for larger dogs and bin any bit that gets smaller than about 2 inches. I get somwe odd looks though buying 10-12inch rawhide chews if Harry is with me( he is about the size of a Cairn terrier )

To date its never put him off his food or affected his digestive transit either way and as such i would only suspect the chew to be part of the problem if your dog swallowed a large lump of chew !

best of luck
