Vermincinerator
My shooting buddy and myself went to a nearby fishing complex which had recently been advertised as being completely syndicated, to enquire about day ticket winter piking. Although we had fished there frequently in previous years we had not attanded for a while but on early morning starts we were always amazed by the amount of rabbits on the property. Wearing our usual hunting gear, as we approcahed the owner he shouted "after a bit of shooting lads?" "Err.....no actually but yes please" i replied. Luckily i always carry my documents with me when i go out into the field so i had a copy of my FAC, BASC mambership and some permission slips to hand. After a few minutes of discussion he signed up, result To top it all he also informed us that the syndication had not taken off as expected so we could still fish on a day ticket basis, result 2. We came away with new shooting permission on the complex withion a 147 acres of adjoining land and the ability to fish a quality pike fishery on a day ticket Ian. Vermincinerator
After doing a bit of shooting on our permission a couple of weeks before christmas we decided to call in on the nieghbouring quarry to see if we could get permission to shoot there, most of the site has been re-landscaped and holds a lot of gamebirds, waterfowl and rabbits, with a couple of foxs we spotted. The place was covered in snow and no one was moving, except the guy operating the weigh bridge, who turned out to be the site manager. I asked the question and he said could we come back in about a weeks time, gave us his number and said ring him before we come out. we thought "fobbed off as usual" and went on our way. I rang the guy the next week and he said come over and we will have a chat, i thought thats looking up, On arrival he took us for a tour of the site pointing out where we could shoot, what pieces of ground were leased to other interests and so on..... We had a chat and site is about 120 acres of which only a small portion is working, the manager said he had no problem giving us permission to shoot but to leave it with him as he would have to clear it with his immediate boss and the head office. Any way weeks went by and not a thing was heard i phoned a couple of times and was told he and not had the time to do anything, so once again thought this one might be slipping away. Anyway last tuesday gets a call asking to come over and sort this shooting permission out, so wednesday morning we were there. Bingo! in the bag, permissiojn slip signed, indemnity signed and risk assessment carried out and signed. Seems his immediate boss is also a shooter but shoots on the firms other site and the head office like the idea of having a couple od trustworthy guys on site at weekends and evenings, yippee!!! On the bottom of our permission slips the manager explained that he had added to "be reviewed after 12 months" and said when you renew this next january you can have access to the other 600 acres on the other side of the road :o We were stunned into silence and after regaining my composure i burbled out "whats that then"? It turns out that they own the land on the other side of the road and will begin sand and gravel extraction in july so we can have access to that site as well Wow another fantastic result, makes up for all the refusals we have had over the last two years. Vermincinerator
I just want to say to all those who are getting fed up of looking for land, keep at it and dont loose heart. Put the work in and you will reap the reward, although i must say the last two permissions were had from being in the right place at the right time. Ian.
