jasper3
Went up to my permission yesterday for a walk about with the dog and gun, the little one has been doing some training with dummies and yesterday i tried him once again on pigeons, the 1st time we tried he messed up or i should say i messed up..tried to much to quick he went straight up to the kill retrieved and brought it straight back and dropped to my feet.without any fuss .I'm not worried about holding as all i want is a dog who will retrieve .as i only do rough shooting.. its so good to see them enjoy working the pigeons tasted great too nothing went to waste , the dogs had a bit aswell as us jasp

Spaniel
Sounds like things are working well, but just remember that if you dont teach the dog to hold and it retrieves a runner, potentialy the dog will drop the bird on its return to you and off it will go.... garyb
Agree with Spaniel Train the "hold" command, else you will be forever chasing runners. It's not hard to do, as you find they are less likely to spit game like they spit dummies.
