theprofessor
I've been shooting occasionally on my folk's farm and am now moving close so considering getting my own shotgun. It will be used for rough shooting pheasants, occasional clay shooting and some pigeon shooting. I'm thinking about spending £400-£600 and currently looking at a Franchi Harrier or Browning Medalist. From what I've seen and heard and tried (I've been to several gun shops to get advice and try out some guns) I get the feeling that they're both probably perfectly good guns. Any thoughts or other good suggestions. Any thoughts most appreciated.
HDAV
Winchester? Perhaps and the top end of budget...Browning one on here for £650 IIRC Franchi are generally light so good for carrying but means more recoil.
theprofessor
Thanks HDAV Light is good for me, don't mind the recoil but do mind trudging around fields with a heavy gun.
throbbingfinger
I have a medalist and it is a perfectly good gun. It'll have a decent resale value if you come to sell it with the Browning name on it. One thing I would say is though, whateve you buy makes sure it fits or pay to have it fitted. djrwood
hello mate, i personally dont rate the franchi guns. My mates got a semi raptor and its got nothing on a berreta semi of the same value. I had a browning 425 for my first gun and altough it was a bit on the weighty side its was a cracker. Used it for all sorts of shooting rough and clays. Brilliant. Like the previous post said you wont go far wrong with the browning name tag and any extra outlay for a good one will be recovered when you sell it. The medalist looks a good gun and i am now trying to find one in a twenty bore as a spare toy for me and something my better half can use. Definately make sure the gun fits you as it wouldnt matter if your using a hundred year old baikal or a brand new purdey, if it dont fit your not gonna hit anything

If you can find a Browning Lightweight game gun its another option, I would Rate the Franchi Harrier as better than the MEdalist (both will be fien occasional guns but if your going to shoot alot you may want to go Berretta Ultralight/ 525 lightweight but they come at a price. mcw65
The FIAS is a Sabatti it stands for, Fabrica Italiana Armi Sabatti
