Evil Elvis
Took purdey out for a wander with the gun this pm,she flushed a bunny which I shot and she found it in the grass.didn't see much else until I got to the car, when a load of pigeons Flew over' I picked my targets carefully and Fired off 3 shots. one fell onto the railway, one went into so shrubs and one landed in the field, purdey was straight out and picked itup and brought it to me! I was well chuffed, she's not even a year old for another 5 days! I then had a bitof frenzied roost shooting for an hour and she spent the whole time catching feathers as they floated down!!!!!!! Evil Elvis
She was hilarious, they were coming in thick and fast and the woods were snowing with feathers, she was running around trying to catch them all!!! She also wouldnt jump over a 2 foot rabbit fence but will jump a 3 1/2 foot solid one in the garden.lol. But other than that shes coming on really well!!! al4x
nice one EE, just one thing to be careful of is letting them get on pricked pigeons too early. I made the mistake and my GWP started killing them got over it but it took a fair while. As for jumping fences personally I don't train mine to go over them, simply because I've seen too many dogs hung up. If they jump them anyway its one thing but I'd not try and teach them. Touch wood mine goes under most or will wait to be thrown over even though when she puts her mind to it she can get in the back of my L200 without the tailgate down
Evil Elvis
Lol, she was taller than the fence, i did take a picture, ill post it when i get 5 minutes. If the bird is pricked she backs off.The thing is, i didnt actually say a thing, she marked it coming down and just did it...more instinct than my training i reckon lol. As soon as she picked it up and brought it back she went off and found the other so she must have clocked them both!!! It was alive and she just pointed at it, but fair play to her...I didnt even see where it went lol. If it hadnt have gone onto the railway shed have clocked the third as well as it was right behind the bird she picked. She was funny chasing the feathers...obviously a laugh once but something i will have to discourage. She will eat them. Evil Elvis
Well, it wasnt a fluke. she went and did it again today!!! mI took her and Dexter over one of my permissions for an hour at roosting time and the first lot of pigeons that came over i killed 2, one landed in a tree but while i was watching that purdey rang a good 60-70 yards out into the field and retrieved the second one!!!! No prompting, nothing and brought it straight back to me despite the obvious distraction of having Dexter present!!!! I shot 7 in total and while she found the some of the ones in the woods she didnt retrieve them, seems like she has to see tham fall....still and encouraging start and she made me well happy!!!
