pigeonblasterian
Bad weather halts duck shooting Shooting of ducks and geese has been suspended until next month because of the severe weather. Bad weather halts duck shooting The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) said the action was taken because of concerns that birds' feeding and roosting could be disrupted. They are struggling more than normally with icy waterways and problems finding vegetation. Tommy Mayne, BASC's Northern Ireland director, said: "Most of the shooting community respect their quarry. This is about ensuring that there is a sustainable harvest there for the next year." Environment Minister Edwin Poots has introduced a special protection order preventing shooting of ducks, geese and waders until January 5. The suspension will be reviewed after seven days and could be lifted if the weather improves. Scotland is also covered by the legal order.
