Open tickets

hey guys,

so i was reading around the other forums and people have been using the term 'open ticket' for when shooting on land unchecked for FAC with a section 1 firearm. I was just wondering what this means because i did think it must be a lot of effort having to check land if you are a pest controller knocking on doors for foxing opportunities for example.

so is it a term on the license which says they can shoot on land without it having to be checked out by the police?

cheers :D

There are basically two types of licence, open & closed. With an open ticket, the shooter can decide for themselves whether land is suitable for the calibre they wish to use, with closed the police decide.

All a bit daft really. The land behind my house is cleared for .243 but there are parts of it I wouldn't use my FAC Air. I have a closed licence but it's still my responsibility to make the judgement as to what constitutes a safe shot or not.

thankyou for that info an ahh ok fair enough, im in Surrey, so not much in the way of shooting opportunities for me unfortunately, or land to shoot on... very unfortunately (full bore at least) would the FEO decide whether to let it be open or closed at the meeting after you apply or do you have to put it as another condition on your license? it seems like there are a couple of little details like open vs closed which are not talked about much, especially in the application process for a FAC.

how would the local officer decide whether to let you have an open ticket? on the grounds of previous shooting experience? age?

thanks :)
