Big Dog
As my wiffe is from the States and we were planning to go over this Spring, not anymore, I thought that buying a scope there would be my way of getting quality at less money. Last week at the range, a guy told me that the US army uncovered USA made scopes in the hand of terrorist that had been used against US soldiers in Iraq. Since that they have tightened down on scope exports. I'm told that you must fill in some form? your hole family and wife's family backgroung and if you turn up at an airport and get caught without this form - BIG trouble! So is anyone aware of this and if it is so, how does this effect mail order??
Dunkield
Sounds about right for them! I bought a Leupold LRT Mk4 back from the States for my mate, I later found out that they class mil dot scopes as military equipment so maybe this is an extension of that ? Frank
Our wonderfull justice system here in southern Ireland were actually thinking of inluding scopes as a seperate apllications to firearms . Which ment, if you appllied and got your rifle, you would have to apply for the scope aswell, this is of course madness and thankfully got stoped by our shooting organisation, equivalent to your BASC. Gemini
thankfully got stoped by our shooting organisation, equivalent to your BASC. Nah Frank. Had it been the equivalent of our BASC they would have endorsed the government action and immediately set up a “Scope Handling Implementation Test” (S.H.I.T.) Cost of taking the test would be £125 + £30 for the diploma (issued by another government dept’) allowing you to buy the required scope. G.M. Big Dog
That would be mad Frank, glad that went off the shelf. Yea it seem to be linked to the Mil-dot thing. The guy who told me said he was told that if the scope turned up in Iraq used against the troops the CIA?? would hunt him down and jail him basically. I'm only saying what he told me I may be going pistol shooting on saturday at the range and the guy in charge on saturday has come through the new system. If I get any bumph on it you guys will be the first to hear. Boy with all this talk on scopes and shooting I getting bored waiting on my FAC coming. Will have to wait until at lease May
bindi
Bringing back through US and UK customs might cause you problems, but many people I know have bought scopes mail order without probelm, so perhaps this is an option to save you money and having a customs blokes gloved hand up your ****,
