Used hull type

Recommended Posts

Most used cartridges are the parallel tube (pt) type in Europe and can basically regarded as the same ,The one's to watch out for are the no longer made American compression formed (cf) they are made by compressing a single lump of plastic in a die to shape and then crimping the re-enforcing metal onto that, Because of the way they are made the internal bore of the plastic is left with a taper to it and you have a reduced volume in the case, This means you have to use certain tapered wads and lower powder loads different to pt cases as the pressure would be probably be over the safe limits .

When you sort your cases look inside them and you should see a plastic base wad a different colour to the tube that is a pt case if is is all one colour you might have a cf case but Winchester were to main manufacturer of cf cases and you do not often see them in Europe any more.

he`s right,

the hulls generally available are, fiocchi, cheddite, etc, it wouldnt suprise me if they were made in the same factory.

as the plastic is thin. use once, reload then throw away.

the american hulls are alot thicker and reload many times, the plastic can be recrimped 3-4 times.

but our european hulls can be bought, in the 1000`s the american ones arnt available as a component.

never ever, ever buy "once fired hulls" online or from a shop, they are usually the hulls that have been shot many times to death. and the seller is trying to screw somebody out of a few dollars. this has happened 100`s of times online.

If you are going down the path to the dark art try to obtain Vectan powder's as they are 1/2 the price of American powders ,Also have a look at Siarm for components http://www.siarm.com/index.php?cPath=2&osCsid=a374251045feae9cd20dd23becc09f94 For example 1000 410 cork wads from Siarm are £9-50 plus postage will bring it up to £23-50 but that postage includes anything up to 5 kg (1000 410 wads only weigh about 400 grams).

to order the same from c&g in Lincolnshire would cost £31-75 inc pp or from Folkstone eng £34-50 inc pp so you can see the savings.
