Short barrel .22's

I have been looking at various barrels to put on a .22 for a farmer I know and I keep coming across these 12.5" barrels.

Now I have no hope of ever getting one down here but I'm very interested in them, has anyone had or used one before and if so do they go and has one been clocked to see if there is much loss in velocity.

I6" is a popular factory barrel length over here, a lot have had their old 21" barrels shopped to 14" (me included) if anything mine became even more accurate.

'They say' all the powder is burnt in the first 12" so after that the bullet is only slowing down.

I only ever shoot subs the velocity wasn't an issue, I haven't heard any crack shots so I guess velocity hasn't increased - but I never had it chrono'd before or after, so can't begin to answer that one.

I've had one on mine for some years.

I've not put a shot across a crono so can't answer your question as to loss of velocity but as far as use in the field is concerned I have not noticed any difference between the 12" barrel and the 18" one other than it makes for a much more handy rifle.

Its all swings and roundabouts nice to have a plus point for a change , But that must really P*** you off , excludeing my shotguns even my 223 remmy has only a 20" barrel anything longer reminds me of the cival war with great long things , but the other side the coin you can have some serious big stuff now that should compensate a bit .
