Wookie
At long last, my SGC has been submitted to the FLO at Huntingdon Police station. I'm a bit nervous, but I reckon things will go well from here on and I do not think that there will be any problems with it. Question though. Does anyone have any experience with Cambridgeshire Police and how long they take to progress things? I'm guessing it will be between a month and two but, judging from some of the posts, could be longer. Wookie
Dunkield
Good man. Firstly - don't be nervous 'be cool' as they say in Pulp Fiction Secondly - give HQ a ring after about a week to check they got all your bits and pieces and get an idea from them how long it will take. If you are in a hurry (or they quote some stupid timescale) let them know you are available at short notice if they get a cancellation Thirdly - remember these people are here to help you, not stop you, obtaining a certificate, despite some of the **** you will read on here and other forums. Treat them how you would like to be treated, and if you get a raw deal then dig in a bit, but don't go it all guns blazing.. Good luck, and keep us posted. Wookie
Don't worry about all that! I spoke to the lass in their office the other day to make sure I had all the right bits in the envelope and, like last time, she was really helpful. If they are anything like the Suffolk FLOs, then they will be dead easy to work with. I'll get some extra-nice tea in for them just in case though! On a slightly more serious note, I fully intend to ask their advice about cabinets and things when they come round. After all, they'll know the best ones to get for getting the license granted. claybreaker88
Hi Mate I have been dealing with Cambs FLO,S for many years now and have never had a problem you will find in a months time you will be contacted by them to arrange a home visit which you will be asked a few questions you say the form was filled in correctly photos signatures and all that stuff. As the form states all convictions need to be stated I had a speeding to to fine from last April which I put down to keep the record straight you should be ok my renewal took eight weeks from posting to receiving my new certificate and I think Cambs FLO,S are very good, good luck

Otherwise they will only have to come round twice...
Wookie
Ok, so I make two cuppas! I got told that I didn't need to get a cabinet in until I got the nod and then I could get a cabinet that they approved of. I'd rather have two visits than buy a cabinet and find out I got the wrong one. No idea who the FLO will be yet, but I'll ask when I phone up next week to see if they got the forms. Dunkield
There only seems to be 2 or 3 major cabinet makers these days, so buying one that isn't approved would be difficult. There is actaully no such thing as an 'approved' cabinet as a cabinet isn't even required if you to take the letter of the law literally. Obviously it makes sense to get one, so all you need to decide is how big and if you want an ammo box or not (if you are considering an FAC in the future) Anyone on here will tell you the same, double the size of the cab you think you may need, I am on my 3rd one now so I should have just a big one with a lock top box to start with :*) Have a look for Brattonsound and DJS on the web. As for getting the guy back, if he is busy you may have to wait for the second vist which will only delay your next big decision - what gun to get!! That's when the fun really starts Edited March 3, 2006 by stuartp

But to be honest as long as you speak straight it's not that difficult. Good Luck!! Ben -
Hunter
Whatever happens, tell the truth. There are some sneeky ones that will try to catch people out Be truthful, smile, show your respect for firearms and theres nothing to worry about. My visitor didnt even want a tea or coffee.. he was out of there in 20 mins, and we spent 15 mins talking about stalking, different guns and the rest was about my security :yp: He just wants to see if you arent some plonker, and that he can trust you with a weapon.
