Spanishfly
Unless you have a FAC you need to check out your BSA lightning ASAP as with a .177 gasram fitting it will be putting out way more than 12 ft/lbs. Probably best to chrono both to find out exactly what they are giving out. I have a .177 gasram by Theoben in my .22 Supersport. Using Gamo Hunter pellets its muzzle energy is 13.8 ft/lbs, according to my chrono.

Frankly I think they should raise the limit over here to around 16 ft/lb to avoid all of this hassle...

I expect co55ie69's rifle will also giving out a similar power, putting it way over the legal limit, at I believe .177 rifles need an extra 15% or so force in the spring. The Duncan
The Duncan these mortals should be learning to take every advantage out of a legal limit air rifle they should be putting targets up from ten yards out to 70 yards, they should practice in all weathers, that way the legal limit air rifle is a great little tool in the rite hands Totally agree Blackthorn. There are times when the 'humble' legal limit air rifle isn't just the best tool in the box for certain applications, sometimes it is the only tool in the box. I'm not going to preach about ranges at which to hunt with 12fpe, but I would maintain that before you squeeze the trigger whilst aiming at live quarry, you have to be pretty damn certain of a clean kill. Any other practise is barbaric. In theory of course even a 12fpe rifle's pellet still has enough energy to kill cleanly at 100 yards and beyond. I don't know anyone who would claim to be at hunting standard to that range. Whatever range we hunt at; practise, practise, practise Duncan
