redwins
Advice sought. I have been lucky enough to have been gifted a Cogswell & Harrison folding 410, but the chamber size is not very clear. It appears to be 3 inch and the pressure is tested to 3.5 tons psi. Would this be the capable of handling magnum loads, or is 2 1/2 inch the limit. All other proof marks are present. Many thanks.
Vince Green
Very few of the old .410s were 3" most were 2 1/2" push a pencil down the chamber to the cone then withdraw it and see.
Paul223
do you have a digi camera or phone which has a macro funtion to take close up pics? if so post a nice clear close up pic of the proof marks

Thanks. Have done this and the chamber appears to be around 3 1/4 inches which would account for the open crimp of the spent case. Will try 3 inch cartridges but check the chamber pressure which should be quoted on the box, before i pull the trigger!!.
Paul223
I wouldn't be so quick to come to that conclusion, a 3inch cartridge measures 3 inch when rolled out and not 3 1/4, look to the proof marks for the correct info, posting a picture of the proof marks would be the best bet

I think my safest option will be to stick with the 2 1/2 inch cartridge, which i know the chamber can handle the 3 ton psi. I am sure it would be clearly marked if it could handle a 3 inch, which i would regard as a magnum. The proof marks are there but nothing which convinces me its a magnum. Thanks again and good shooting.
