farmshooter
hello all, just wanted to pick your brains. im currently using softpoints in 55 grain, but im thinking of going to hollow points as i have been offered some cheeper. i use hollow points in my .22 n they work well but riccoshade alot? will this happen with a .223 or will they be a safer bullet. im going to be using it mainly on foxes and small vermin. thanks
Dekers
The .22lr will ricochet from time to time due to its size and weight and speed. Any calibre can ricochet...as witnessed by the famous clip of a guy having his cap removed by a .50 ricochet, but it is not common for any centrefire to ricochet. Whether it be HP or SP or Ballistic tip, .223 is not much to be concerned about, FMJ perhaps a slightly higher chance.
Beardo
never had any complaints from the foxes with 55gr Samson Hollowpoints

Oxon88
Ive never had a ricochet with my .223. Tis is because the velocity is so high, once the bullet hits it just fragments into lots of pieces. fmj's may be more susceptible to ricochet but still not very likely.
