alan,

the powder you want would be Vectan AS, it is the cheapest. then i`d use hodgdon titewad. both in this application give enough pressure to burn well. i`m just loading some #4 at the moment,

the titewad load i`m using is about 15grains, and fibre wads (18 grains is 11500psi and 1200fps (maximum publishable pressure)) it burns phenomenally well.

the vectan AS recipe would need to have the powder charge reduced from an existing 1,1/8oz recipe.

i`ve got a hand written data set here, please take it with a pinch of salt

cx2000-21grain AS -b&Pz18 -32g shot -1116fps. someone else should be here to varify the data. (i hope)

but i think that 17-18 grains should be sub sonic. it should also burn well too. i`d certainly try 17.

hope this helps,

That is the stated speed at 20metres not at the muzzle, my unscientific experiments found it to be 1175fps at the muzzle with 20.5 grains of AS. That doesn't need reducing much to get where you want to be and still have a useful cartridge.

The OP might find that a slowish game cartridge might be just as quiet as a subsonic round but with much better performance.

Hope your plastic wad doesn't stick in the baffles and ruin your gun when the next one goes thru.
