zeroing a rifle

Recommended Posts

I recently was granted permission to shoot on a very large farm (around 10,000 acres) which has fox, rabbits, hare and the odd deer. I am currently holding a .308 and a .22 both for target shooting, so I intend to ask for a .243 and .22 for rabbits, hare (the .22) and fox and deer (the .243). How do I go about asking to be allowed to zero or shoot targets with my .308? Also, I am told the farm has a rat issue. Is it worth asking for a FAC shotgun? Any ideas in any of the issues welcome. Thanks!

Im new to many aspects of shooting but FAC shotgun for Rats ? seems rather excessive ??

Wouldn't an air rifle be perfectly adequate, would certainly kill rats but not so likely to do damage like a shotgun would to buildings etc. At a push your .22lr for rats but that seems overkill to me.

What do you have the 308 for ?

I am almost sure they will not give me an open ticket, I have so far only shot targets. I informally asked about the .308 for fox and my FEO said that the .243 is better, the .308 he said is too much. If they give me the .243 I do not mind about the .308 to be honest, as long as I can shoot some targets in the farm. Travelling to Altcar is expensive and they only let people shoot 5-10 shots a visit. My .308 is new and I want to put a few hundred bullets through it so the barrel is 'bedded'.
