shoughton
One of my permissions put his peas in last week, but the pigeons just don't seem to have got onto them yet. They were rolled in on Sunday and I had a few hours then - but only managed a handful of birds. I have a day off tomorrow - booked as I thought they would be well onto the peas by then. But it still all seems quiet. The farmer is moaning about rooks all over the drilled barley (the pigeons aren't touching it) - so worst case it looks as though I may be hitting the rooks tomorrow instead. Good shooting but I was really after a day on the pigeons! I shall probably set up a small pattern of pigeons next to my huddle of rook decoys in the hope of tempting a few. I just hope it all gets going soon. I've got a day booked off every week for the next month and already warned the wife I'll be missing at weekends .............. liamp79
I changed over to the rooks last weekend. They were hammering a couple of fields of drilled barley, so set up some pigeon decoys and then put a shoot rook out and they came in thick and fast and kept adding the shot birds into the pattern. Makes for a change and keeps the farmer happy. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!
Mightymariner
Several fields of peas just gone in down here, and on Tuesday loads of pigeons all over them. Going for a recce tomorrow prior to shooting on Friday. Just need to pin them down on one field, or set up at a junction of three fields to keep them moving. They'll be on peas, on and off, till harvest now. Had some good shooting on them last year.
