markyboy
Guys a question! I've just sold a gun and took it to my rfd to be sent to another rfd as was a private sale and live to far away to meet face to face! What is correct procedure to follow when notify your local police that you have sold the gun? What info do you have to give them? I've wrote a covering letter and filled out the appropriate sheet! Do I need the persons personall details aswell to tell police where gun is going or do the rfd deal with that?
steve_b_wales
You must notify the police that you sold the firearm to the RFD, as they 'bought' it from you. When he sends the firearm to the other RFD, they will enter the firearm onto the certificate of the person who ' bought' it off you. You can ask the police for another firearm of the same caliber to be added to your certificate, in lieu of the one that you sold. This will be classed as a one for one variation, and will be free of charge. Steve.
markyboy
So I don't need the persons details that I sell it to if it's done through rfd? It was a shotgun I sold if that's a different matter? Thanks

The RFD who you handed the gun to, is the buyer, in legal terms, so it is their details that need to be forwarded to the police. When I sold one last year, I sent a copy of the receipt off the RFD to the police, as well as all the other details. Steve.
