Guest cookoff013
at a push you could have used tecna it is a very slow powder. (but is very expensive) A1 is a great powder for 30 and 32g loads, do not expect great speed. i have not used A1 yet, but good luck. the powder ideally suited to the 36g loads would be vectan A0, being cheaper and having a good speed. i personally wouldnt use A1 for 36g loads. you will get higher pressures and slower speeds than need be. if this is published data then it should be fine. cartridges are like cars, why make a allegro when you can make a ferarri? I get a little bit of unburnt powder using 23.5grains of A1 under 32grams of shot and plastic wad but they are brilliant cartridges none the less, consistent and really kill well Edited April 11, 2011 by sitsinhedges

A0 is alittle more expensive but it is versatile, light steel, slugs,40g shot being some of the applications. i believe the speed is more important, as speed is energy, really. incidently, manufacturers can load lots of powder in their cartridges, because they buy it cheaper than a homeloader. they buy it by the barrel 25kg and 50kg lots. even i have psi problems now and again, my load of titewad was 16grain over 7/8oz of #4. this burned really dirty. just by adding 1 more grain. made the load cleanerand faster. this was still within the safe limits, it just was below the 9k psi that produced clean burn (and stable pressure / speed). I was using 18grains of some Vectan AS24 I was gifted for 7/8th loads and I thought it was excellent. Amazingly economical too, only wish I could have got some more. So many shells out of a kilo of that compared to AS or A1
Guest cookoff013
ah yes. its a very fast powder. with my 32g subs i got 466 shells per 454grams (or 1 lb). very clean burning too. its only downside, it is really limp with loads over 1oz. giving very high pressure and un impressive speed. but as a fun powder its a cracker ! @ sits, you could always "buy" a lb from a shop? i used that 7/8oz recipe to shoot off a load of #4s. great fun.
