point and shoot
You need to follow the instructions! Usually this means to strip off all of the existing bluing back to the bare metal and start again. You can never 'patch' the existing bluing. jonesy
hi do you mean strip the whole barrel ? it is cold bluing that im trying if that makes any difference ?
sitsinhedges
That's what it does. All cold blueing without exception is absolute carp. The only way to do it properly is to strip and take it to an industrial metal finisher who does hot blacking. They'll do your barrel for about a tenner and it will be a proper job that lasts Cold blues actually put a thin layer of copper on the steel and the solution blues that rather than the metal, this is why they are ****. Hot blacking treats the steel itself. Edited April 10, 2011 by sitsinhedges
point and shoot
Cold bluing. Yes that's the one. A decent job can be made with it. It usually needs two or three coats. Use cotton wool to apply evenly and to avoid streeking. Les
