Beretta black onyx

Hi don't know when it was last made. The newest may not always the best option, you could get the the last one made and it could have fired thousands and thousands of cartidges, while a older gun might have only been fired a few times.

Fair enough I would look at when it was made, but a major consineration is the condition of the wood, any wear, the state of barrels and action.

Hi thanks for the reply only reason for asking was I've looked at 3 now in different gun shops and all the wood and barrels have been in good condition but the action on all 3 looked very worn out .

Did also look at a White onyx .same gun ? But with nickel action ?

There are a variaty of 686's around all with slight differences, a gun expert on here should be able to tell you what the differences are. Another good one to consider is the 686E which came in black or silver finish.

There is a thread on here someware that shows you how to date a beretta from the barrels markings, could be worth a search for the thread.

One important thing to consider is the fit of the gun, its a case of not buying a gun on looks but the fit. If the fit is not good it will spoil your enjoyment of the shooting.

There are two letters stamped under the barrels these are the date codes for year of the gun.

You say all three guns actions seemed worn,.every beretta iv have had a go of were loose upon opening.

Its just the way they are my new gun has only shot about 1500 carts and now swings open as soon as the top lever is pressed, this gun had not been fired as i bought it new,it was a bit tight to start with but not tight like a Browning or Miroku are.

Some one on here posted the date codes a while ago a search should bring them up.
