woodentermite
is it a bad idea to shoot any type of gun through any type of fence?
apache
Depends what you mean. I commonly shoot bunnies just the other side of a post and rail fence. I would never shoot through wire unless I could physically put the muzzle of the gun through. Remember even if you are shooting through a wooden fence at some distance the scope may see between the rails but the bullets trajectory is not same as line of sight. So bunny just other side of wooden fence I think fine, wire fence no. Of course you must have permission to shoot over the boundary!

Dekers
What apache said, commonly not the best plan but it happens in various situations and for various reasons, and like he also said your bullet takes a different path to the scope, so be VERY careful. njc110381
My rule is that I will poke the muzzle through a fence but not shoot through one. Wire can deflect a bullet, and a bullet (certainly from a centrefire) can also cut fence wire like a hot knife through butter. Farmers don't like their wire being shot through! The point about the bullet flight path vs the line of the scope is a very good one. I know of several lamping trucks that have lost wing mirrors for that exact reason. It's very funny but at the same time not ideal!
